OK, two super unknown UK bands on here, limited to something like 9 copies. Comes in ziplock bag with photocopied sleeve. Epic45 are on side A and are playing a twinklesome instrumental, cold and wintery like a Tristeza meets Antarctica (CDEP era) with moments of fantastic glaciality (is that a word, dammit?). The track is called “And Still They Stand, The Churches of England”. It’s all about the repetitive guitars with a downbeat electronic drone in the background. Somewhat surprisingly it explodes into a loud, wall of guitar finish that falls away leaving sad sad keyboards to mourn their departure. Guess that’s what they were building to. Anyway, find out more about these kids soon, via a Collective Zine interview. Providing they know how to use words.
100 Pets (wha?) do a song called “Wise Old Cat”. Ok, so you like Papa M? You’ll like this track too. It’s hard to describe. Sounds like lots of different stuff going on with guitar, gentle and warm yet not slow”¦ Apparently there is cello in here? They do have whispery vocals though. Do you like Kepler? You’ll like this track too. This song is almost too pretty for it’s own good. Yowser. Heart-achingly beautiful, and drifts on it’s mellow way long after they ran out of words to mumble in your ears. Rather strange finale though, are they trying to talk to the whales?
Um, about as essential a 7″ as has been released by UK bands lately. Find it.
