Labels: Walls Of Grease
Review by: Andy Malcolm
This is an interesting 7″ to say the least. It comes on kind of dirty looking “clear vinyl”, with a photocopied (kinda) cover and a sticker that says the bands name on
it, written in a childish scrawl. My copy came with a hand-drawn picture of a
bearded Scotsman looking very confused. Also, someone called Finian is in this band.
Cool name!
But enough of those piffling details, what the heck do they sound like? Well, I
guess they sound like they should have been on Gringo Records in 1998. That’s about
as much reference as I have to this kind of art damaged punking. It’s all clogged up
recordings made in a broom cupboard full of squelchy bass and a dude yelling every
now and again. Squelch-fart-fart-squelch goes the geetar. It’s all very jerky.
Then on side two they continue all jerking around and going squelch-boing-squelch
with the first track. I’m lost to be honest. Afterwards they indulge in getting the
singer to shout down a tube whilst the band squelches around muddily.
Well, all that and sixteen years old or something? Christ. Anyway, I have no idea
what this is all about and it is limited to 220 copies. OMG! John Peel probably
likes this. I think I would too if I had any idea about this style of music at all.
