Evader - Acorns And Leaves - 7

Labels: Happy Capitalist
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Ooh. These chaps are from Norwich, but I have never seen them play live. I am a doof, because this 7 inch is actually a bit good. They splay three tunes of excitable indie rock across their black wax, coming across as rather slack yet somehow energetic with it. On the opening track the guitars go whacka-whacka-whacka as the bass kindly nudges the whole thing along as if the rest of the band would just play the same chord over and over if it didn’t help out, and the dual vocals yawn the occasional lyrics with not too much effort, yet it sounds mighty fine. The second song is a less punky slice of cake, with sung vocals and a few “woo-oo-ooo’s” going on whilst the guitars jangle pleasantly with the slightest trace of urgency. Over on the flipside is a track named for Michael J Fox, which busts out the gate with chugga-chugga guitars and an organ. I think it sort of sounds like Weezer (or Silver Sun!!!!!!!!!11111111 they were cool), but this is bearing in mind that I have minimal exposure to Weezer. It is quite repetetive and fuzzes around nicely. I like it when it gets really fast and spazzy. Fun. After that they fuck about it with that tune they play when Darth Vader comes on Star Wars.

This is hardly the most unique thing in the world, but I think if you appreciate the music of Superchunk and Built to Spill and Weezer then you would quite probably enjoy the tones of Evader. Fancy that.
