It appears I still have my near insatiable diet for good screamy emo bands. Even ones with terrible names.

This 7 tracker of squawky chaos dishes out all that is good in this style. Plenty of harsh screaming hardcore parts in the Orchid fashion, and pretty twinkly bits with all Yaphet Kotto-esque brooding and talking. It’s by the book, but its still a good book, albeit a well thumbed one with a couple of pages falling out and and Billy Werner’s name written in cursive script in the front.

I don’t know why I am besotted with this genre, but I plainly am. EoV really set their standard from the get go, the first track provides ample opportunity for them to show off their noisy and more contemplative sides. They charge through the rest of the record in a similar fashion. Splattering pretty melodies against the wall in the wake of their more thunderous moments. The intro on one song (I lose track of which is which) is brilliance, kicking into a groove with one guy singing and the other yelping. Only time I thought this 12″ lost direction was the final track where a couple of the guys start goofing around by the sound of it. Fun in the practice room or if you know them personally, not fun on record where it just sounds plain dumb. Also after the 2nd track they didn’t stop the tape quick enough and you hear a fraction of a second of another song, which is the kind of thing that is excusable on a mixtape but not on a proper release!! Lazybones.

If you ever enjoyed Spirit of Versailles / Saetia / Portrait and are quite happy to listen to more – you will more than likely be swept away by this band too, as they have got this style nailed. Nice one.
