Fifteen - Survivor - CD (2001)

Labels: Sub City
Review by: Martin Brown

It saddens me that people look up to shitty pop bands when they could be listening to Jeff Ott. Sexually abused by his dad until the age of 13, slept rough, fathered an unwanted child, got addicted to heroin, the dude managed to pick his life up, start a charity for the homeless and be in two of the greatest punk rock bands of all time. As one might expect, some of the songs on this are fucking harrowing. My only criticism of this album is that the sledgehammer effect sometimes gets too much for the listener: the female vocal on “˜Prostitute Song’ singing about rape just makes you press stop – it’s too much. However, the rest of the album is superb. Perhaps not as good as “˜Lucky’, their previous album, but still a great political punk record. It’s also a benefit for Prison Radio with a focus on Mumia Abu-Jamal. record due in the fall, go get this one! NOW!
