“My Angel Rocks Back And Forth’ was one of the highlights of last year’s “Rounds’ LP, it still seems as curious and mystical as it was the first time you heard it. There is that simple melody and those sounds that dart from ear to ear (if you are using headphones like me). This song is special; it is worth picking this EP up for this one song.
The rest of the EP consists of two remixes and two fresh songs. The remixes are nothing special unfortunately; they are formulaic, predictable and downright pedestrian. Luckily the fresher songs save the E.P, in particular “All The Chimers’ is a delicate track. Its eastern sounding melody lines sound gamelan influenced, although a gamelan stripped of the rhythms that define the sound. This is complex, and interesting and the less I say about it the better. This is a song that needs to be heard, and then you make your own judgement, but I for one, like it. I like it a lot.
The second disc, which is a DVD collection of Four Tet’s videos to date, makes this an essential purchase for a Four Tet fan.
