French Connection - demo - CD (2002)

Labels: self released
Review by: Andy Malcolm

French Connection rip through 5 quickfire tracks of screamy emo here, no standing around or taking ages to construct where they are getting to. They simply get in, play their riffola and get out again. It is chunky and melodic in a way that bands like Yaphet Kotto are, with urgent, yelped vocals and angrier backups – reminding me of early Vida Blue. Other times they play a faster, more modern style that fits with the likes of Transistor Transistor.

This is pretty short so you don’t get much time to settle into it or get to know the songs as they blister by a moment. I am sure that’d make them extra fun live. This is decent stuff, if you like the angry melodic emo thing you’ll probably be into this.
