Fuiguirnet - Wolf And Cub - split - 7

There’s a sticker on the bag!

Here’s what the sticker says about Fuiguirnet: “œex-members of Hero Of 100 Fights, Managra, Murder In The Red Barn and Tintoretto”. That’s unlucky if that doesn’t mean much to you, but it’s also understandable, as that’s a pretty obscure bunch of Chicago-based math-rock and hardcore bands. Here’s what the sticker says about Wolf And Cub: “œex-members of Dakota/Dakota and La Mantra De Fhiqria”. A pretty righteous pair of bands, especially the second one, who shared a split with the quite-feted Bleeding Kansas.

There’s a record in the bag too!

Here’s what Fuiguirnet’s song sounds like: wayward but sung hoarse vocals over some brawny but playful riffing, leaning on the mathematical side without sacrificing a good, memorable piece of melodicity. It also has a big dumb comedy outro I could do without. Wolf And Cub: screamier, with a sudden burst of velocity and a Hot Cross-esque feel to the frenetic fretwork, before ending on a cool slow, hefty section that gives them the edge in this round. A good split!
