Gameface - Errortype:11 - Gameface / Errortype - CD (2000)

Labels: Revelation
Review by: Ian Cavell

God knows how many times I’ve listened to this CD. When Gameface played ‘How Far Is Goodbye?’ and ‘Wartime Hero’ on the recent UK tour I was already sold. After the third gig I cracked and even the stupidly bloated tour price couldn’t stop me picking up a copy.

And it’s as good as I hoped for. This is classic Gameface, the material is up there with the Cupcakes EP and ‘Mercury Dimes’ in terms of quality. ‘How Far Is Goodbye?’, in particular, has everything: Emotion, understated energy, great lyrics and melodies galore. Probably the best song this band have ever committed to record. ‘Wartime Hero’ is a little more energetic and really shows off the excellent song writing that this band is capable of. Finally, the third track blends a cover of ‘Change of Heart’ with some drunken ramblings. The cover song rocks and the drunken ramblings are pretty funny. Which I guess makes the Gameface half of this CD a roaring success.

Errortype:11 are slightly overshadowed on this release by the quality of the Gameface songs. But they do a fine job of cranking out some quality rock music. They’re a good match for Gameface really, since the styles of music these two bands play are not a million miles apart. Again, there are two new songs and a cover version and I really enjoyed all three. An excellent release!
