Gang Gang Dance stir up a whirlwind of freak-out on this strange record. The first ten minutes or so bring bands like the Animal Collective, Double Leopards and even Sunburned Hand of the Man to mind with its droning scratches and Ida Know-esque vocals howling over the top. It breaks into a clattering of rhythm, drums and pots getting banged into the ground”¦
It really picks up when it becomes more song-based however. The drums and keyboards splatter together in a style not heard since the Get Hustle CD. Gang Gang Dance are a lot looser (and whizzy and whirly like Black Dice) however, it’s the freeness of the music that makes it stand out. This record isn’t amazing and it certainly isn’t better than a lot of other groups riding the same waves but its spookiness and bumpitty drums keep it afloat.
