Garrison - Walter Walter - split - 7

Labels: Sore Point
Review by: Damien Mills

Some new UK based label has apparently seen fit to release a Smiths tribute album consisting mostly of bad fashion rock ‘post-hardcore’, something they bizarrely seem to be quite aware of as they have now released a couple of the slightly more credible bands/tracks on it separately as a 7″.

Walter Walter is apparently big goofy Walter S. of Quicksand / YoT / GB fame in some kind of solo capacity banging out a song that I have to say I’m not that familiar with. It’s alright, pretty harmless but he should really go back to doing what he’s best at, and it’s not a patch on Quicksand’s belt through ‘How Soon Is Now’.

The other side belongs to Garrison, possibly one of the worlds patchiest bands, but one that, when they get it right, they get it REALLY right. And thankfully their brilliantly snotty rendition of ‘Panic’ is awesome, it retains the melody and edge of the original but rather than playing it boringly straight the music has a slightly more messed up feel with some weird guitars and stuff going on.

It was only cheap but as the reviewers cliche goes, one for completists only. Probably.
