Hail Mary - My Will To Die Is Dead - 7

Don’t know anything much about this band at all, except they get compared to Born Against a lot. I’m not yet in a position to back that claim up, so here’s what I think.

This is 3 tracks of damn fine hardcore that pretty much steam rollers you flat. I’m not sure how, as it’s not super fast, it’s not super heavy, it’s just, you know, any good. It’s got a sort of chaotic influence that bands like Torches to Rome had, but isn’t full on nuts like Swing Kids or Angel Hair, although I guess you could say they have similarities in places with both those bands. Vocals are snottily shouted in a pretty traditional hardcore fashion rather than screamed or wailed, but you can’t really figure out what Telfian is getting all worked up about unless you follow the lyrics. Opening track “Residue” really drives a long, powered by agressive guitars that retain a vaguely melodic edge, much in the way of the afforementioned Torches. And that sets the tone from there. Quickfire, hard hitting, slightly crazed hardcore that keeps the interest. I think anyone that likes their hc non-generic would enjoy this.
