After the fucking brilliant LP they did last year I was so looking forward to a new Hella record. I have to say I’m a little disappointed though. It kicks off with an electronic fuzzy intro that doesn’t really do much, then the first proper track starts off. It’s a good track but its quite annoying because the drums must have been either sped up or programmed because I cant see someone playing drums that crazily (also from seeing them live-he was good, but not that good!). The great thing about the album was the whole fucking hell quality of the drumming (well I thought it was) and when they have been modified its not so great. It just sounds a bit too fast. Maybe they haven’t been fucked around with and the drummer is the second best drummer in the world (after Jim White of course) and Ill look like a dick head but it still ain’t as good. The songs aren’t as strong as the lp, and there really is no excusing the vocals on the last track, they sound awful!
It’s quite a pity really, but I just can’t get as excited about this as I did their last one, although I give them credit for progressing.
