High Lo Fi - Three Sided Single - CD (2000)

Labels: Boss Tuneage
Review by: Russell Opie

When I first saw this, I cringed. I thought it was going to be bad. And when I say bad, I mean really bad. The front of the packaging looks like a techno single or something. And the band picture on the back – well I won’t say a word, but come on guys, what the hell were you thinking?

Anyway, all that aside, and not one to judge a CD by its packaging, I nervously placed the CD into my stereo and awaited the result. I am glad to say that it wasn’t half as bad as I thought it would be. Three tracks of poppy sounding indie-punk. Its melodic and catchy. I’m sure that the mainstream pop-punk kids would really love this. I could also see this getting on top of the pops or something. It really is that poppy.

The first track is faster paced, poppy punk with sung vocals and infectious hooks. While track 2 and 3 are much more mid-paced punk and these two songs are pretty darn cool aswell. As far as pop-punk goes this band have actually done it really well. And I liked this a lot better than I thought I would!
