Hot Snakes haven’t hit me this hard since that fucking great first record. Maybe it’s the format, maybe it’s because I’ve had a few drinks I dunno-it rocks. What Hot Snakes have going for them in the dreadful overpopulated world of garage rock is that they pay less attention to posing in the NME and use the time saved drinking and writing great hardcore garage rock – and for that I salute Hot Snakes.
Both ‘This Mystic Decade’ and ‘Hi-Lites’ have a great Jehu guitar sound and the ever-frantic drums give both pieces enough energy to really take off. In my opinion they are never going to write a record as good as ‘Funhouse’ but they’ll do just fine for the moment.
