Hugs - s/t - 12

I am really enjoying this slab of excitable chaotic hardcore the past few days. Sure, it’s only one side, and sure, it’s nothing ridiculously original, but Hugs not only have a great name, but they have managed to breathe some much needed life into the decaying corpse of screamo. So what you get is a bunch of high-powered RAAAAAAAA. The first track in particular owes a lot to Orchid, but after that the band really find their feet and their own sound. The second song blisters and has dual screamers, the guitars have an edgey and dark melodic sound, circling for the kill and then delivering. I love the groove on this song, they even get 3 vocalists going at once later on. The third song is mostly fast and out of control, but breaks down at the end in a great fashion. I really want to read the lyrics, but the sheet has been folded into an origami bird, and I am afraid that if I unfold it, I’ll never be able to recreate the bird again. I’m such a sap. There are a couple of other songs too, and they keep the quality flowing. There’s a super fast melodic one that reminds me of Eurich, it’s so good! I don’t have a bad word to say. These guys and the Exelar are making screamy emo RAAAAAAAAA worth listening to again. Hugs for everyone! HUGS!
