Iceberg - Bears - split - CDR (2004)

Labels: self released
Review by: Joe Caithness

The nice guys at Iceberg have sent me a free CDR split with their friends the Bears, along with another free CD of their site project, the Prom. This CDR comes in lovely folded biege paper with black print of machinery on it (very mid 90s emo!, although he music is far from it!)…

Icerberg first then. In goes the CD. Iceberg play blistering Reversal of Man / Jeromes dream style Emo Violence / Hardcore / whatever it’s called this month. Very tight rhythmically, lots of changes BUT as opposed to all these bands that are over the top for the sake of being over the top these days, Iceberg deliver great changeovers that suit the mood of the song and keep the guitar work flowing great. First track even is 100% Emo till a point where some insane noise is created post production wise and it goes nuts! Second and third tracks are full on Emo violence rhythmical mayhem, the vocals are absolutley krazy, think Jeromes Dream mixed with Of Death…. quite…. Basically if you thought Orchids third LP was a milestone in modern hardcore and that Reversal of Mans “Revolution Summer” EP caused a revolution in your taste, keep your eyes and ears cocked for Iceberg! Good stuff.

The Bears… well here we go! well after a long sample I can honestly say… this is poor. Ok, I don’t like this style one bit so I am probably jaded but this band just sounds like Daughters done with a drum machine to me or something! and I hate Daughters. Sorry, there is not a lot more to say.
