J Church - One Mississipi - CD (2000)

Labels: Honest Dons
Review by: Luke Younger

This must hold the title for ‘most tracks contained on a pop punk album ever’. Theres 26 on here! And while this may appear to be good, this is also bad. Bad, bad, bad. Y’see I loved Irn Bru. One day I decided to drink 8 cans of Irn Bru, and continued to induldge in the lovely fruity scottish drink every day for about a month until I just got damn sick of the stuff. That’s kind of the same thing that’s happened here. You could have had about 15 of these songs on this record and it would have been an absolute classic, but the rest seems to be irrelevent clutter. Ho hum. Despite this, J Church are probably one of THE best bands in the world doing this thing and ‘One Missisipi’ is a top album that will appeal to fans of Leatherface, Jawbreaker and The Smiths. Just remember to play it in short bursts and if there are signs of it beginning to ware, why not try some Iron Monkey, Drive Like Jehu and Trans Am to break things down a bit. Otherwise they may become the Irn Bru of the punk rock world.
