Jeff Gameface - Acoustic - CD (2000)

Labels: CI
Review by: Ian Cavell

Finally I get around to reviewing this CDEP! I’ve been playing this on and off for that past 5 months so I figured a review was probably long over due. If you didn’t pick this up when the band toured in April, you’ll be missing five lovely acoustic numbers, performed by Mr. Caudill himself and released by the good people at C.I. records (who?).

The first four tracks are stripped down, acoustic versions of songs taken from each of Gameface’s major releases: ‘Somebody Save This Boy’ (Cupcakes EP), ‘Daylight Savings’ (Three to Get Ready LP), ‘Hey Radio’ (Every Last Time LP) and ‘Friday Matinee’ (Good LP). However, the fifth and final track, ‘Laughable’ is new and so fucking beautiful its worth the price of the CD on its own.

Now I happen to have a soft spot for acoustic songs, especially when a decent melodic hardcore/punk band decides to unplug the guitars and let the drummer go for a coffee. So, its no surprise that I rate these five songs highly. Even more so I think, after seeing the acoustic set Jeff Caudill did at Shake Some Action (I can still remember that nervous atmosphere). Either way, its Gameface, its acoustic, its fantastic!
