Jelly Gun Jack - Goomba - 7

Labels: Boss Tuneage
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Here’s the latest in the one sided 7″ series from the Tuneage. Two tracks on fun yellow vinyl, limited to 320 copies. Not so many then! Anyways, Jelly Gun Jack are playing fast paced, edgey melodic punk in the vein of, erm, other melodic punk bands. It’s all good solid music, with a definite British feel to it. It’s poppy and has high pitched vocals that lend comparisons to Skimmer, it has more aggressive guitars that you could almost liken to a more in control early Dillinger 4, and it has a guitar solo on “Goomba” that might make you think Leatherface. Production is rough, either that or I need a new needle for my record player. Catchy and enjoyable, if you like Crackle! style bands then you’re going to want to track this down before BT sell out of this for sure. I’m surprised to see a Norwich contact address because I live there and I’ve never even heard of them before! But hey. Actually, they aren’t too disimilar in some ways to fellow Norwich-ites, Southpaw.

Not bad. Not bad at all. Just not jaw dropping amazing.
