Jelly Gun Jack - Zarse - CD (2000)

Labels: Boss Tuneage

Wow, a band from Norwich and, wait for it, they’re actually not that bad! True, I thought Zarse was pretty shit on first listen but I think I’ll put that down to being overpowered by a combination of some awful ska songs and one or two iffy tracks.

Basically Jelly Gun Jack have opted for that oh-so-common Fat Wreck style sound, split the vocal duties three ways and recorded this album which is very much a half and half affair. The first handful of songs are pretty neat. Generic as fuck but still pretty neat. I found myself singing one the other day so they must be doing something right. Unfortunately, most of the 2nd half is pretty appalling. The aforementioned ska songs do not do Jelly Gun Jack any favours – although I’m sure they kids down at Fat Paulys would like it. But then if I dropped my pants, stuck a Fat Wreck sticker on my arse and farted for 20 minutes the kids at Fat Paulys would probably dig. They could skank or something (dumb kids).

Anyway, getting the review back on track, there ARE some good songs on here. In fact a couple are down right rocking! But, to be honest, I don’t think Jelly Gun Jack were quite ready for a full length album. A couple of 7″s or a mini CD might have been a better option.
