DeClArED interest… when I got this CDr, i noted that it came from a PR company run by people that I actually know, and who in the past released a record I made… I don’t know if Andy noted that too, thus putting me in a BIND… but anyway, now you know! This is kind of the next wave of Tom Vek i guess? Solo singer songwriter stuff that’s got a lap top and a copy of the 2nd Max tundra record. It’s nowhere near as immediate / danceable as the Tom Vek singles I’ve heard (and enjoyed) or as crazy ass as Max Tundra.. However it is very pleasant, like a more urban sounding Gravenhurst at times. The intertwining male (nerdy/ whiny/ offkey but English) and female (bit of posh also nicely English) vox get me humming along, some of the backing is a bit self consciously glitched up, which can lead to a bit of an irritating gimmicky feeling… but there’s some very nice acoustic guitar and rumbley noises going on. Particularly on the second track which has a nice chorus of “I made you a gift of the sea”, which sounds like something from a book I read… but I forget which, I liked the slightly less frenetic nature of that track. Check this if you liked the vocal tracks on “mastered by guy at the exchange” or perhaps think Hood would be ace if they just CHEERED UP a bit.
