Best stuff yet from these chaotic emo violence noiseniks. 10 songs of frenzied, fall around, yelped vocalled (Reversal of Man stylee) hardcore. Guitars are torn at, drums are pounded to pieces, things are hectic. Blood on your hands. Features occasional anxious jangly emo parts, bringing it back. Song titles all have at least 6 words. And interspersed between the louds, are numerous samples, and the sounds of a mis-tuned radio.
The reason this particular 10″ stops in the tracks previous JD material is it’s more ‘melodic’ groove. Not that it’s tuneful, but it tends to adopt a more ear friendly approach with intricate yet chunky guitar work more akin to a band like Yaphet Kotto sprinkled amidst the meltdown of the pummelling hardcore parts. I think it’s the wind down at the end of “It’s More Like A Message To You” that really emphasises this bands touch for frenetic noise and the dark, peaceful, calm.
The second side of this platter destroys me in a more convincing manner than the first, although the first couple of songs seems shorter. Overall it’s top of the range goodness. Spice it up with lyrics I like, and a smart design, and you got it. Mark it up there with that “Revolution Summer” 10″.
