RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Pretty much what you’d expect from Jeromes Dream. Widely acknowledged as one of the better bands in the “Scream Your Face Off And Play Crazy” genre, a.k.a. screamo, JD offer up various tracks here where the screamer does that high pitched breathless noise. Exactly like the dude from Reversal of Man. Musically there’s not much you can say. It alternately punches you on the nose in a particularly brutal fashion, or mellows into one of those hardcore rockouts or momentarily quiet parts that screamo bands are apt to do. Drumming is perhaps a little high in the mix for this style, but everything is suitably chaotic and scary. Solid stuff, but I’d get their 10″ to hear these guys at their blistering best.
Meanwhile, we have Usurp on the other side. Cool sample to open things up, “Do you know what a graveyard… really is?”. Then they plough into the music. Sick vocalled screamo with an eerie-spooky atmosphere, and “DEATH playing an organ” keyboard parts on the first track. I never knew these guys had keyboards. It’s all very chaotic and Orchid inspired, tending to career a long at a frightening pace whilst the guy coughs his lungs up all over your carpet. Got stain remover? Yah, this is all evil sounding and shit, and it’s damn fucking cool too. The final track is rather awesome, starts out slow with the guy sounding like he is killing himself, apart from that I find it strangely melodic and depressing.
Um, white vinyl and the sound quality is shot to shit, but you’re just buying this for scene points anyway. Get it.
