John Doe Band - Far Apart - split - 7

Labels: SNC Empire
Review by: Ian Cavell

I’ve had this 7″ for what seems like ages now so its probably about time I reviewed the damn thing. And I think one of the reasons its taken me so long to write anything is because (to be brutally honest) this isn’t that interesting. Sure the intention is good – this 7″ was put out to make a statement about the friendship that grew up between these two bands when they toured together. But I’m pretty indifferent when it comes to the music. Far Apart do the emo-rock thing and would no doubt fit nicely onto the Deep Elm roster. If driving, melodic rock be your thing then you might want to investigate further but there is better stuff out there.

The John Doe Band up the tempo a notch or two. They’re still doing the emo-rock but its a more driving and urgent sound than the Far Apart side. I hear a Texas is the Reason influence going on here. But, again, while this is competent stuff it doesn’t really instil much in the way of excitement.

So so.
