Oh my oh my. These spastic crazies certainly are appreciative of the fact that Swing Kids, Mike Kirsch and Assfactor 4 revolutionised hardcore punk rock, and are ready here with 7 freaky-assed numbers, ready to kick you fully up the rear end. They’ll have you climbing walls and goin’ all nuts. No problem. Snarling vocals lead the way, whilst the chaos is pounded out on the instrumentation. And the coolest part is that whilst it all sounds so beautifully out of control, there is a semblance of a groove running through it, keeping you focused and intent. The lovely thick guitars on the opening track, the mellower intro to the 2nd song (damned if I can read the titles, they used a freaky font on the packaging) that leads into the bombastic blast and the simplistic super-fast punk rock riffage. Or the scooting guitars to open on track 3? Damn, it’s all so good! The punk rock elements certainly make me think that this is how Dillinger 4 would sound if they were obviously influenced by Torches to Rome (the intro to and structure of “Yearbook” is soooooo Kirsch it’s naughty) and other such stuff.
I dig that some kid has been allowed to draw on the center label of the disc in wax crayon. And I dig the music. Oh, and there is a big sticker on the front says: “not that it matters anyway – just in case you care; this ex-unbroken”. Doesn’t make a jot of difference to me, I heard one Unbroken song at it stank so bad, I had to evacuate the village. And it’s unbelievable to think that they are related to other ex-Unbroken bands like Kill Holiday! So just check this out anyway if it sounds like your cup of tea. Definitely one of the best things I’ve picked up in a long while.
