Right now, Keelhaul are one of my favourite bands. They are very loud, and very heavy, and they mix up straight ahead rocking bits with some interesting twists. Obviously that description does them no justice whatsoever, but then I doubt any would. The track they serve up here is one of their slow-burners, with a guitar plucking out one of those brilliant riffs that you swear must have been done already, but it hasn’t. It builds and builds, moving from one discordant riff to the next, to an almighty payoff. Joe from the mighty Craw (who have made the album of the year in my opinion) handles guest vocals. Sweet as.
Anodyne bash through a short, sharp burst of hardcore madness, which isn’t overly memorable, before delving into some menacingly atmospheric industrial noodlings, all bassy pulses and mumbled threats. Weird, but good.
Two awesome bands, with some lovely and innovative packaging on a great label. Buy!
