Keith Welsh - American - CD (2002)

Labels: Boxcar
Review by: Nadia Almashoor

It was not fair for me to slag this off instantaneously. Thus, I gave it a week or so until I was settled down and it is late nights like these where “quiet” music is required. Indeed, this time around it does not sound as bad. A blend of folk and country and Welsh employs other instruments like the piano and the harmonica for added “effect”. While it serves it’s purpose as background music, there aren’t any outstanding tracks that I could single out, unfortunately. So, this is not bad but it’s not great either. I would suggest you check out the previous album ‘Slowdive’ on Brave Noise Records (www.bravenoiserecords.com) where it’s just Welsh and his accoustic guitar. And together they churn out the most raw and intense and heartbreaking melodies in the likes of Bright Eyes and The Aasee Lake. Get that, not this.
