Keleton DMD - Dirtriders - CD (2002)

Labels: Makoto
Review by: Kunal Nandi

A five-song stop-gap effort from the newly-reformed Michigan power trio, and it’s a cracker. Maybe the production’s a little weak, and the singer’s voice can go wayward at times, but that’s not the point.

Shellac is a lazy reference-point, so I’ll use it. Powerhouse drumming and awesomely tight basslines evoke a similarly tense atmosphere, but with the super-spazzy guitar and sung vocals over the top, the whole effort comes off as pretty tuneful actually. It’s tight, confusing, harsh stuff, and it doesn’t forget to totally fucking rock too.
