Kill Sadie - Half Cocked Concepts - 10

Labels: Old Glory
Review by: Andy Malcolm

I initially thought this 10″ was entitled: “Half Cooked Concepts”. Hohum.

Yeah, Kill Sadie, this busts an ass an half! Great energy packed hardcore punk rock, snotty screamy vocals, and an ounce or two of chaos should engender the occasional Torches to Rome or Assfactor 4 (from what little I’ve heard of them) comparison here and there.

From the cool chugga-chugga opening riff and the almost eerie and extended jangly part that follows it, you have good music. It suddenly lurches into offkilter and crazed hardcore punk, the bassline is positively hyperactive, and the rest of the song follows it around beautifully. And “For Any Reason” has an awesome twinkle breakdown, giving it some added emo. But not only are they keeping stuff up to date, they also do great, grooving slower parts where you can really do that hardcore dance that all the kids do to their throwback bands. During the melodic part on “Brand New World”, I can see them all punching the air right now. I can see this appealing to most people who like some form of hardcore.

Everything comes encased in a lovely glossy cover, and with a big ole lyric booklet. The band have come a long way since their earlier 7″ on one percent. Bless you Old Glory, for you rock!
