Kodiak - Upsetter - 7

Labels: One Louder
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Apparently when the Promise Ring came over here, Kodiak were supporting them. That’s a good enough reason for me to check out this band on Newcastle’s One Louder Records.

They are nothing like the Promise Ring of course, I’m not that lucky. It is sort of indie rock though, with the emphasis on rock. And it is pretty good.

Damn, I can’t think of what I want to write for “Upsetter”! It’s quite American-sounding (they might be American though!) – almost grungey in its approach to rock, which is not the best way to make me say: “this is the best thing I ever did hear!”. Still, it’s far from bad, and the guitars are pretty good.

B-side, “A Lover” is more of the same grungeyish indie rock. I can’t think of a specific band that they sound like, but that’s probably cos there are so many that do this sort of thing.

Worthy of a listen, but nothing out of the ordinary. Shame.
