Oh dear. Not my thing at all, I probably don’t even know the right words to describe it. Firstly, lo-fi, indieish pop punk on opening song “Summer School”. Totally wussy vocals, and man you should see the band photo! If it’s to be believed, then they out nerd-core even Mid Carson July, and that is some feat I can tell you.
Over on the b we have “Something Tells Me I’m Into Something Good”, a cover of the old Herman’s Hermits song. Somehow they achieved the feat of making it sound older than the original. That’s pretty clever. Doesn’t sound wildly different either, maybe that’ll give you more of a feel for what the band sound like! Fun, yeah, I’ll grant it that, but I am not going to be coming back for more. We clock off with “Pop Rocks and Cafe” which perks up a bit, this one is actually really neat. Keeps the old time sound, but it’s faster. Toe tapping, and you gotta dig the guitar solo! Maybe the Kung Fu Monkeys are ok after all. And they do have a great band name.
Um, not sure really! Maybe you should check them out yourself. My copy is on lovely green vinyl.
