If everything in this world had a musical equivalent, Kylesa would be soundtracking the emptying of containers filled with industrial waste into very deep holes, as their churning wall of Neurosis-inspired, mutant hardcore is more than up to the task. Truly fucking enormous drums propel a bleak tide of detuned guitars and bass, while joint male and female vocals roar, gargle and curse all the way to the devil’s bathtub. Despite being heavy as hell, the band manage to infuse their songs with an eerie tunefulness, allowing stained melodies to seep into the guitar lines and vocal parts, both complimenting and contradicting the thick, bludgeoning noise of their music. If dark, unsettling hardcore a la Damad or Artimus Pyle is your poison, then you could fare a lot worse than letting these four tracks take you deep into troubled waters.
