Lali Puna are a band that I have never bothered with, I presumed they would be boring electronica or post rock. I wasn’t too far off but they are certainly better than the new Mum material. The music on this disc is well written semi krautrock influenced (Neu! especially) electro-rock. They have a lot in common with Stereolab or Broadcast but are a little bit more fun and interesting to listen to than both of those bands.
When they write a good song it’s bloody good its just that there are a few too many boring songs on this record and it’s not exactly fresh and new sounding.
I’m not saying this isn’t a good record rather that it’s very much “just there”, nothing shouts at you to check it out and maybe it’s that lack of musical yearning that’s made them dormant to my ears for the three albums they’ve released so far.
