I had seen some mixed reviews for this cd but as I thought their first album was perfect I had to check this out.
There are a lot more musical instruments used on this cd, you can hear piano, horns, strings etc all used really well and give the album a nice classical feel. I thought the first album was a lot like Low (but better), this album, sounds like it could be a different band. They still play similar music, but they have a different sound. The male singer sounds a little bit different, maybe more throaty. His voice and the use of piano make “in the afternoon” sound a little like the most recent 90 Day Men cd. There are a lot more poppy melodies on this album, it definitely sounds more mainstream..its just I don’t think the songs are quite as good as on the first record.
I had this on tape when me and my mum drove from Nottingham to Brecon (in the Welsh Black Mountains) and it was great driving music (even my mum thought so!!).
