Lawrence has put out tons of records on Ghostly and Kompakt but I’d never heard any till this lovely CD turned up. This is a little more straight forward than a lot of the stuff on the aforementioned labels; Lawrence doesn’t fall back on juttery rhythms or camp vocoder vocals, instead its lush melodic electronica.
Most of the tracks here have a simple 4/4 rhythm but it’s not overbearing, and with the light brushes of melody flittering over the top it wouldn’t sound out of place on a Channel 4 documentary about Berlin’s industrial architecture. Much of the warm undercurrent could have benefited from either slightly harder beats or some slightly different rhythms just to liven it up a bit but other than that this is a really good record.
