Saw the 7″ lying around in a record shop by this band I saw play about a month ago, so figured I’d give it a look. Not that they totally blew me away when I saw them, I was just intrigued enough to give them a proper look. And it is called “Sea Sore Songs”. I want to go on a see-saw.
On opener “Beside”, they are doing that meandering and moody post-hardcore/indie thing that is so popular with certain bands in the UK at the moment. Think a long the lines of San Lorenzo and all those guys. It opens up very softly, with whispered vocals. It builds up, the vocals become sung, and the band start layering the sound and get rather rocking indeed. They also do a bit of that ‘talky’ vocals thing later on. And then they scream, like Moss Icon. Or maybe not that similar, but I just wanted to show off that I know who Moss Icon are. Get in with your early emo bands.
We also get “Seaside”, which begins a bit jangly and actually, to show off again, it sounds a bit like a slower Native Nod [who rule so much if you haven’t heard them], with slightly weirdy vocals. Revolving around a repetetive bit of guitar it spirals it’s way onwards.
Yeah, I dig this, though I think it’s a touch too indie sounding at present. I don’t know what that means actually. Maybe that it’s a little too ‘straight’? A bit more spazziness wouldn’t go amiss. But worth checking out if you’re into those Gringo Records bands and stuff. Yup.
