Let It Burn - The Scarlet Letter - split - 7

Labels: Vendetta
Review by: Kunal Nandi

Let It Burn fucking rule! This is hardcore, but of the more joyous and upbeat variety – think Civ or 7 Seconds. It’s still totally loud, fast and hard, but the tunes within the riffs are fundamentally melodic, despite being shot out machine-gun style. A rhythm section tighter than a gnat’s chuff helps propel everything along with a great verve and energy that makes you glad to know that there are bands still doing this kind of thing. Plus they cover that “Get Ready” song, complete with wayward vocals and a super-huge chorus, so extra marks for that too. Enormous unpretentious fun.

The Scarlet Letter are almost dull in comparison. Their brand of rock is more clattery and scattershot, never really finding its footing in one section before spinning off down another avenue. Usually I never have a problem with that, but here nothing really clinches it for me, and it just flails away in a pretty unmemorable manner. Heard better.

Clear orange vinyl too – sex!
