So we finally have the second full-length by the ever-ignored Liars Academy, apparently much delayed due to the fact the band members thought they had broken up but hadn’t, or something. So I’m glad they finally got it together. The first record was lots of nice punchy, slightly nerdy melodic indie rock, and in that respect this is more of the same. However this record is way darker sounding than previous outings and a little more musically complex, without ever disappearing up it’s own arse, awesome.
I suppose in a weird way it’s quite commercial but not in an obviously deliberately, they just have a knack for this sort of thing I guess, and I would take Knapsack over anything on relapse any day anyway, though I’m probably in the minority on that…
If you ever need any great melodic indie rock to sulk to then this is a good place to start.
