Now here is a band that is getting better and better with every record. Their LP was pretty decent, if nothing spectacular, they followed that with good stuff on a split where Hot Cross sounded so amazing that they would have overshadowed pretty much everyone in the world, and now here is a brand new 3 track 7″. And it is blistering. Light the Fuse are a pretty straightforward, energetic hardcore band but they play with a fuck of a load of energy and power that really lifts it to the next level. The guitars thrust with a force similar to that you would find on a Mike Kirsch record, and the vocals are spat out and shouted in a fashion that just makes you feel like the band are on your side and that they give a shit. I bet there is some mad dancing at LtFaR shows. The lyrics are top notch too, thoughtful and thought provoking at the same time. The band these guys make me think most of is Former Members of Alfonsin, except without the straight edge overtones. Former Members were an amazing hardcore band with cool melodies and lyrics and ideas. The two bands don’t sound exactly the same but have a similar approach to the music they are making. My favourite track is the side filler, “Coke Owns the Color Red”, which is just absolutely on fire though it has a pretty long, mellower break in the middle before building back up the power for the monster finale.
This is one of my most played 7″ lately, LtFaR are certainly making some darned fine hardcore. Well worth grabbing this one if you can, you won’t hear many better this year.
