This CD kicks in in exactly as it wished to go on, which is something I love on albums, no fucking around – just breaks in with the jangly post punky rock ‘n roll axe work! Aces. Before I go any further, this is ex members of the incredible emo hardcore group Rights Reversed (from South Carolina), but I mentioned this early so you can forget it now. Manamid play some of the catchiest funk punk since the 80s, I shit you not sire! Sounds equally drawn from seminal UK post punkers such as Gang of Four as well as 90s bands, you know the ones – when the older hardcores people wrote catchy rock, for example Burning Airlines…
This CD has a real live rocking feel to it, which is nicely complimented by some great use of synthesisers every now and again. Plus they really know how to mash in the dischords before you get too comfortable! I am really pleased with the guitar sound on this album, it is just clean enough to have some awesome lil pop riffage, but harsh enough so that when he’s wacking away at the strings it makes a bit of a racket. And the vocal harmonies, don’t get me started on them! Pure class! Singalongtastic!
This cd comes shrinkwrapped with a barcode.. could be the next big thing, to be honest there are about a million uk bands doing this style all wrong. It seems to be emerging with the false new wave kids finding the early 80s stuff, but hey Manamid rock it and probably don’t care about that… lets go!
