The second in Ache’s series of organising meetings between electronic and rock acts is, like the Hella / Four Tet split, unfortunately a bit duff.
I’ve heard of Die Monitr Batss before but never actually heard them, and if you had to guess what they sounded like from their name you’d probably be right. What the Batss offer up is no-wave damaged garage rock, and although they’re quite noisy I can seem them fitting in just fine with Death From Above 1979 fans as much as someone like El Guapo (or whatever they’ve changed their name too).
The Matmos side is pretty funky (it was written by Curtis Mayfield), but it doesn’t have the same quality of the rest of their material. As with the rest of their records it at least makes fun listening, I just can’t exactly see myself returning to this bad boy too much.
