Meam - The L - LP (2003)

Labels: Skam
Review by: Chris Bress

We got the cd of this in at work and I thought Id give it a go seeing as it looked pretty nice and was on Skam and all and I was immediately hooked. Meam uses almost industrial beats but takes notes from techno and 80s hip-hop and molds it all down into some awesome rounded electronica. The record can at times sound really cold and bleak in an Autechre fashion, but as always a melodic undercurrent seeps its way in and the music becomes lush and similar to Lexaunculpt.

The DVD is the whole record with some very strange animation and visuals (some of which bring to mind the fantastic manga remake of metropolis). At first it felt like just an added bonus to have a dvd of visuals to go with it but Ive found I get a lot more out of the music when its accompanied by the DVD. Its amazing to see how much work must have gone into this release, it really makes you question what releases have become and how they could develop. I may e wrong but I think that Meam may do the visuals for Bola as well.

Check this out because its basically fucking great!
