Millhouse - Dig-Dug - split - 7

Labels: Act Your Age
Review by: Ian Cavell

I’m definitely impressed with Act Your Age records. They’ve certainly got some quality releases under their belt (the Sore Loser album is dead good by the way) and this Millhouse / Dig-Dug split 7″ is no exception to the rule.

Millhouse, who may or may not be named after the Simpson’s character (lets hope they are) play pop-punk. But pop-punk that keeps me interested and that’s becoming a rare occurrence these days. ‘Letters for Chloe’ plays the best with some great chugging guitar rhythms and lovely pop melodies. If these guys were from England and not Houston they would probably have a 7″ out on Crackle! by now.

Dig-dug squeeze three songs onto their share of the vinyl and one of them rocks big time. ‘Mom’, aside from being a song about how cool someone’s mum is, also doubles up as the best of the three. The amazingly catchy chorus won me over straight away.

The other two are so-so : ‘Andy’ is about one of the other blokes who writes for collective and how he taught this guy to through a football back in ’95 while trying out for the Oilers (*this is 90% lie*) and ‘B-Movies’ seems to be your typical “don’t give a fuck about what you think of me” song.

No doubt about it – a worthwhile purchase.
