Are these kids ex-Cone or something? I should do some research some day. Heh. Who cares. Yeah. I’m punk rock, and I don’t give a shit about these things. That’d be it. Not because I’m lazy. Oh no.
Well, Milloy have something good going here. They are part of the new generation of the UK melodic hardcore scene. Now that Broccoli, Hooton 3 Car and Apple Orchard are distant memories, Dugong, Southport and Milloy become the new champions. Whilst Leatherface smile down upon us all like the drunken Mackem Father Christmas that they are.
I always say it, but I really love the UK melodic HC scene, which would appear totally at odds with my otherwise elitist tastes of course. Because there’s always catchy tuneful songs, few obvious choruses and vocals that won’t appeal to pop lovers but always go over well with me, leading to all round damn fine music. Milloy achieve all those definitions over the course of 7 songs here, and I can’t fault “em to be honest. Vocals are slightly rough round the edges and certainly not traditionally sung, but are very effective.
The new generation of UKMHC (heh) is adopting the emo-rock influence a little more, and Milloy are adept at dropping in the occasional twinkle break, but it fits in well with their fast paced rockers the rest of the time. But overall it rips a long and is eminently enjoyable. For two minutes “Kingsway Closed” is simply delightful, and when it flows into the punked up Promise Ring-esque intro of “Royston Flame”, I’m smilin’.
Best UK stuff released on Crackle since the Broccoli 7″ (the best Crackle 7″ by about, ooh, 100 miles), and well worth checking out if you’re down with this style of music.
