Monochrome - Ferro - CD (2003)

Labels: Trans Solar
Review by: Unknown

Finally their new album is out! After the genius and so beautiful record “Laser” (1999), Monochrome has released their new Cd “Ferro”, produced, recorded and engineered by Bernhard Hahn and the band itself. The album was released on the the label “Trans Solar records” (Germany). Already with the first track, titled “Fällt”, Monochrome steps back to the roots of their last longplayer “Laser”, with such a fine and clean emo post-rock sound, framed by such a beautiful female vocalist. So awesome! … maybe one of the best songs that they have ever produced. Second song on this 20 minute masterpiece is called “Angelfire”, a track, that had been previously released on Monochrome’s “Varia” 7inch (2002) – on Dim Mak Records. Like the first song, this one is also inspired by the whole post-rock movement, framed by such nice guitar-parts – an outcry full of emotions, full of hope, desires and wishes. With the third song, their sound gets slower and slower… from now on there are many more single notes than chords that are played – the drums sound much more electronic… like on a few tracks of the “Laser”-Lp and “Radio”-Ep… but the music stays so dreamful… lost in such a different world, so far away from everything, that makes you suffer, that makes you feel bad… from now on: just close your eyes and dream… it will become true… surely… in your thoughts, in your heart, in your soul! The fourth song “Lufkissen” is louder again, completed by some drum-samples… but damn… the play of the usual drums sounds completely different now! This is due to the fact that Monochrome actually plays with a new drummer and the fourth song is still recorded by their ex-member – same for the song “Angelfire”… anyway… all these band members have such a huge musical potential, that everything that they create, sounds so awesome… like the two next songs to come! But what the hell? The last song… I don’t know how to describe it, how to express myself!! Two e-guitars and an acoustic guitar, such a calm male-voice, such dreamful female lyrics… I can’t remember a song, that expresses so much, that is able to make me feel so melancholic… so great… so slow… so emotional… with such a best jazz and blues inspired ending! This record should be in the cd-player from everyone, who thinks to be “a weak guy with his hands in his pockets”! GREAT RECORD!! GREAT BAND!!
