Review by: Alex Deller
Following on from the Orcustus 7″ and the Tangorodrim LP, Southern Lord add another gritty black metal release to their blasphemous stable and show how there’s really not too much difference between doom’s infernal house and that of their corpse-painted brethren. Eerie, primitive black metal is the order of the day with four tracks devoid of any pomp n’ glory, just a blitzkrieg of molten metal raining down like artillery fire, all indecipherable snarls, scything guitars and the occasional peal of demonic laughter echoing up from some yawning, sulphureous chasm. About as subtle as a severed goat’s head left bleeding on the vicar’s doorstep but no less effective for all its heavy-handedness, this is a fiendishly good racket sure to hasten your screaming descent to hell.
