My friend Chris sent me an email a while back saying he was ordering the new Gauge Means Nothing split and asking if i wanted a copy too, as it was going to be a pain in the ass so he could save me the hassle by doubling up. Well, i loved their lp from last year so i couldn’t turn him down. Duly, everything went off, and this cd is back for me as the result. Although, i’m kind of intrigued to see that the Japanese postal service can cope with addresses written in English, i’m pretty sure the royal mail wouldn’t be able to deal with Japanese. Anyway, there’s a cd here somewhere…
Singapore’s My Precious were new to me, but after hearing them here i’ll be looking out for their old stuff and any future releases. Rocking spazzy hardcore (is this ‘screamo’?) that is quite poppy with it. Certainly a lot of fun to listen to, and quite danceable too. While this kind of thing could get boring over the course of a whole album, there’s no need to worry because a) there’s only three tracks here, and b) there are two female vocalists at work here who ably scream, shout, sing, and talk their way through those tracks. This works so well i wish there were more tracks! Good stuff. My Precious
Gauge Means Nothing released my favourite lp of last year, so i was pretty stoked to hear their new songs. They’ve lost several members since, but you can’t tell as poppy mayhem is still the order of the day. There are a couple of grandiose moments in here, notably on the first track ‘lost infinity’, but everything else is the same stylistically undescribable mish mash that made me love them in the first place. Melodic hardcore/jazz/rock/spazz/every genre under the sun pretty much. I can’t not mention the a capella part in ‘beneath the same sky’ which is a little weird, but quite daring too, but really all that needs to be said is that this is amazing. Gauge Means Nothing
This cd was released to accompany the joint tour of Japan by these bands, and damn, do i wish i could have seen one of those shows. Still, the cd is brilliant, you know what to do! I’ve Come For Your Children is doing a US/European release of this next month, so it might be easier to get in touch with Ryan about this: I’ve Come For Your Children
