Labels: Hydra Head – Neurot

This is excellent. Neurosis records always take a bit of time to sink in with me but when I get into them, they fucking destroy me! This is brilliant, I think its been out for a while but has just been reissued on vinyl. It kicks off with a space-rock esque beginning, kind of reminds me of Nick Cave whispering over an early Pink Floyd record. Then you start to feel it build up, which is very much what Neurosis are about nowadays. They utilize the rhythm very much like the Swans did so well. The most recent CD sounded a little like Godspeed You Black Emperor at times I thought (not just because of the use of strings!) and you can hear their sound in this record as well, I’m sure they share a lot of similar influences. I fucking love this record. This is one of the records you listen to late at night like Burning witch! I’m sure if you love Neurosis you’ll already have this, if you dont know them, Im not sure if this is really the place to start…get the one with the Wicker Man on the cover (just because of the cover though).
