New Granada - s/t - 7

Labels: Lengua Armada

This is the 2nd 7″ release from these guys (after one on Council Records) and they are definitely one of my favourite hardcore bands right now. They have a balls out style, invoking a discordant sound from many a year ago (a la Born Against / John Henry West / Rights Reserved blah blah blah). Desperate vocals and rapidly played guitars with a buzzing, vaguely melodic edge to things going on in a Mike Kirsch type fashion. Everything is played fast but is in tight control, belying the rough production. The vocals are yelled but with that sneaky frantic emo inflection of desperation that makes them sound so good – just check the talky bit in “Spread Thin”, emo as fuck! I am pretty sure the singer was in Spirit Assembly but I have never read another single sentence about this band anywhere so I have no idea if that’s true or not. Fucking cool though. All in all, 5 songs of raging, passionate hardcore that would make me dance. Snap this up and the Council 7″ and go nuts ya big bastard.
